FAQ
Q: What is a FLO?
A: FLO stands for Freshmen Leadership Organization. Each organization
provides a unique leadership experience that is ideal for incoming freshmen.
All of the FLO's are a member of the parent organization, Freshmen
Leadership Advisory Council (FLAC). The purpose of FLAC is to make
sure that each FLO provides a comparable experience.
Q: So how is FLiC different from any other FLO?
A: As stated above, each FLO provides a unique leadership experience.
FLiC focusses on applying Jesus Christ's teachings on becoming a godly
leader. We would encourage each freshman interested in becoming involved
in a FLO to check them all out and then decide which one fits them best.
Just because a freshman is a Christian does not mean that FLiC should
be his or her choice on the FLO that fits them best.
Q: Is FLiC associated with any church or denomination?
A: No. In the past, FLiC has come from a diverse group of denominations
to serve together as one body. We strive to be unified through our love
for Jesus Christ.
Q: What are FLiC's beliefs?
A: A copy of FLiC's statement of beliefs may be found attached to any
FLiC application, or may be downloaded by clicking
here. Feel free to contact us with any questions.
Q: How do I join FLiC?
A: Applications will be made available at the first of every year at
the Fall MSC Open House. This application will include details on application
deadlines. Interview sign-ups will be available at the cube when you
turn in your application.
Q: Does everyone who turns in an application get an
interview?
A: Yes.
Q: How many people are in FLiC?
A: FLiC consists of about 60 freshmen (half guys, half girls) and
about 20 staff.
Q: Why is FLiC a selective organization?
A: As much as we wish every freshman could be a part of FLiC, it is
necessary for us to be selective in order to focus on developing the
freshmen as individuals and as leaders here at Texas A&M.
Q: How does FLiC provide a leadership experience?
A: FLiC provides a leadership experience in a number of ways. FLiC is
made up of six different committees, all of which provide the freshmen
on that committee the opportunity to organize different events (social
and service) and lead the other members of FLiC and possibly other people
at these events. At every meeting, there will be a speaker or activity
aimed at teaching some aspect of Christ-focussed leadership. Prayer
meetings are held weekly. Also, study hours are held weekly in order
to show that managing our time wisely is a key part of any form of leadership.
Q: What is the difference between all of the different
staff positions?
A: The directors serve as the "president" role, overseeing
all of the freshmen and the rest of the staff. The servant leaders
are responsible for overseeing and facilitating ideas for their committee
along with their partner (one male and one female). The servant staff
- discipleship leaders are in charge of pairing each freshman
up with an upperclassman discipleship partner to mentor them, and to
also organize events for the freshmen and their discipleship partners.
The servant staff - prayer leaders are in charge of organizing
the weekly prayer meetings, as well as encouraging us all to be constantly
surrendering all aspects of our lives before Him. The servant staff
- music leader is in charge of leading us in praise and worship
through music at the general meetings and retreats. The servant staff
- secretary/historian is in charge of various organizational tasks
including taking minutes at the meetings and making a contact directory,
as well as incorporating the history of FLiC through reunion events
and records.
Q: Are there any opportunities for upperclassmen to
become involved in FLiC?
A: Yes! Towards the beginning of each year around the time that the
freshmen application process occurs, FLiC will be looking for upperclassmen
to serve as "discipleship partners" with one of the freshmen. A copy of this discipleship application
may be downloaded by clicking
here. Feel free to contact us with any questions. Also, at the end of the year, applications will come out for staff for
the next year. Both of these opportunities do not require prior membership
of FLiC during the freshman year.
